Another application that makes use of UDP is Remote Procedure Call (RPC). RPC supports interprocess communication across a network. Many implementations of RPC manage the reliability and sequencing of data and use UDP as a simple datagram delivery service to avoid the overhead of TCP. Timing information is not provided in TCP, and this is important for many real-time applications. RTP data therefore uses UDP for its transport and again avoids the overhead and complexity of TCP.
